Other areas
of cooperation between the two governments include the Indian
Technical Economic Cooperation Program ICCR etc, where the
Ministry of External Affairs of Government of India offers
20 scholarships to Ukraine, covering a wide range of sectors,
which also includes the study of English as a language. The
Foreign Service Institute of India helps in the training of
Ukrainian diplomats. In 2006 the two countries signed the
Framework Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and
the Government of the Republic of India on Cooperation in
the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.
The cooperation of the two
governments in the sphere of science and technology has benefited
both countries tremendously as they can exchange active scientific
data within a legal framework. The Intergovernmental Agreement
on Cooperation in the fields of Science and Technology was
signed in 1992. The present bilateral collaboration between
our countries is based mainly on the Third Intergovernmental
Program for the period 2004-2006. It includes numerous projects
like: material science, theoretical physics, nanoelectronics,
information technology, biotechnology, biomedical technology,
geology. It has also led to the establishment of many joint
ventures and research laboratories and centers.
The economic and trade activities between India and Ukraine
will increase, under the Focus CIS Policy of the Government
of India as Ukraine is one of the seven focus countries. Also,
during the Indian President to Ukraine in June 2005, the two
countries agreed to try and reach a target of 5 billion USD
in total trade turnover by the year 2010.
Thus with support from both Indian and
Ukraine governments bilateral trade and industry can only
flourish.
